How To Make Money on the Internet -- Part 1
1) Get a domain name from a reputable service like NetFirms or 1and1.
Choose a simple .com domain name. Your customers will remember one- and two-word domain names, and if you ever decide to sell your web site or domain name, short names bring in a higher price.
Notice I told you to buy a .com domain name. The .com extension is the most recognizable: we hear about about "dotcoms"; the news media tells us about the "dotcom revolution." Most people know what you mean when you say "dotcom," but not when you say "I just bought a dotru." (In other words, you do not want a .ru domain name, and you should probably refrain from buying .cn, .ca, .info, .org, and .net domain names, too, and the same goes for all the others you might find.)
2) Now you need to point your domain name at a web hosting account. You might want to start out with a free account, since even if the free host goes under, you can just open an account somewhere else and then point your domain name at the new account. Just make sure that you back up your web sites and databases on a regular basis.
That's the beauty of having your own domain name. The links to your web site point at your domain name, not at your web hosting account. The links to your web site will remain operable even after you change web hosts. (So don't use the free subdomains that the free web hosts hand out. If the web host vanishes, then all the links you built to point at the free subdomain the host provided will be useless. You will have wasted a lot of time and effort.)
If you just can't do without a free domain name, then take a look at my post Make Money Without Spending.

Next time I will tell you about Money Making Opportunities and Building Links.
